After John introduces us to the Person of Jesus, he explains how Jesus' identity as the Son of God was confirmed to Him, John the Baptist declares Jesus to be "the Lamb of God," and John describes the calling of Andrew, Simon Peter, Philip, and Nathanael to follow Jesus as His first disciples.
