Applying the illustration of the vine and the branches, the Lord Jesus calls His disciples to demonstrate the vitality of their love for Him by obeying His commands. He will send the Holy Spirit to be their Comforter, Counselor, Advocate, Teacher, and Guide Who will lead them into all truth and remind them of what He's told them. He assures them of His peace—a peace that is wholly unlike the peace the world offers. The disciples’ love for Jesus and His love for the Father make their obedience and their assurance possible.
