Ministries

Beside the regular servcies of the church, First Baptist is working to share God's grace with our community in several ways.

First Baptist Christian Preschool Academy: For preschoolers two-months to four years old (by September 1). The Preschool Academy of First Baptist Church exists to provide stay-at-home moms and care-giving grandparents scheduled breaks to meet personal and family needs while, at the same time, providing preschoolers quality care and educational experiences in a nurturing, distinctively Christian environment. We will use a modified version of the A BEKA curriculum for three and four year olds which will lay a foundation for Kindergarten at Tallassee Elementary School.

Youth, Grades 7-12: At First Baptist, our goal is to develop young disciples and equip them to stand for Christ in the world. This includes Bible study and discipleship groups to develop character and train witnesses prepared to explain the Christian faith. We also aim to instill the dream of a Christian marriage and home. And we find time to have a lot of fun along the way!

Children's Church: During the morning worship service, we have a children's church for children in five-year old kindergarten through third gradec, called, Worship KidStyle.

Upward Basketball is for boys and girls, grades 1-6. There is basketball for both boys and girls and cheerleading for the girls. Upward is a community ministry sponsored by First Baptist and carried out with the help of other Christians in our community.

Disaster Relief
In 2006 First Baptist established a Disaster Relief Team. Almost thirty members have been trained. Trailers and equipment were purchased to assist with mud-out and chainsaw disaster relief projects. The First Baptist team (Alabama Chainsaw Unit Number 34) serves under the direction of Southern Baptist Disaster Relief.

The Baptist Start Page is a ministry to the Christian Internet community. It exists to provide a good starting place for believers seeking sound helps for Christian living, Bible study, Christian beliefs, Sunday School and sermon preparation, and other related subjects. The church provides the funding and Pastor Gentle is the webmaster in his spare time.

In addition, First Baptist supports ACTS and LifeChoice Crisis Pregnancy Center.

LifeChoice Crisis Pregnancy Center provides free pregnancy testing, confidential counsel, information, and practical assistance. LifeChoice also provides post-abortion support. The center opened in spring 2005. LifeChoice is located on 403 James Street (one block off Barnett Boulevard). Walk-in's are welcome. Their telephone number is 252-0894.

LifeChoice is legally incorporated with its own board and is not part of First Baptist Church. However, we are glad to give them our support.

ACTS stands for Association of Christians in Tallassee for Service. This is the combined ministry of churches and individuals in our town to provide benevolence help to those in need. ACTS is also a separate entitity with its own board and is not part of First Baptist Church. However, we are proud to give ACTS our support. ACTS is located in the red building on Highway 14 in the Carrville communiuty. Their telephone number is 283-6750.

And of course, First Baptist joins other Southern Baptists in touching North America and the world with the love of Christ by supporting the Alabama Baptist Childrens' Homes and Family Ministries, the North American Mission Board, and the International Mission Board.
