First Baptist Church   1279 Friendship Road   Tallassee, Alabama 36078
First Baptist exists to experience, celebrate, and share God’s grace. We affirm six main functions as the means of so doing: Christ-centered worship, Biblical instruction, prayer, world evangelization, nurturing fellowship, and caring acts.

Mission Statement & Church Principles

First Baptist exists to experience, celebrate, and share God’s grace. What does that mean?  How do we try to live this out as a community of faith?  Each Sunday morning at First Baptist, you will hear our congregation recite our mission statement and hear one of our church principles. These are the guiding principles for how this church tries to work.

Ministry Teams

First Baptist has the goal of equipping every member for ministry and then deploying our members in service.  This is true, not only in obvious places like singing in the choir or serving as an usher, but also in various ministry and service teams. Each member is allowed to serve on up to one ministry team and one service team. Ministry teams involve service in a sustained effort that requires more planning.  Work on a Service Team requires less planning and does not require the sustained effort the work of a Ministry Team does.  We have only two committees: the Personnel Committee and the Stewardship Committee.  The difference between a committee and a team is that committees make decisions for others and teams make decisions about how to carry out their own ministries.

Church Bylaws

Our church bylaws contain our Confession of Faith (the 2000 Baptist Faith & Message and spell out how we operate, determine leaders, and solve problems.

Deacons

First Baptist has a rotating body of deacons, selected by the congregation.  We don’t think of it as much as electing deacons as determining whom God has called to this office. You can download the booklet which describes what we view as the biblical qualifications for the office, the appropriate role of deacons, and our process for selecting them.

Preschool Policies

To ensure the cleanliness of our preschool facilities and the health and security of the preschool children in our care, we have a set of policies in place.

Policies for Use of the Building for Weddings & Funerals

First Baptist provides use of our facilities for weddings, funerals, showers, and teas for members.  We do not, however, offer or rent out our facilities to non-members like wedding or funeral chapel would.  Because we use our facilities as a church first, we have to have a plan to make everything work together.  You can download our Building Use Policies to learn more.

Steps to Conflict Resolution

First Baptist doesn’t like to fight. In fact, here, fusses are few and far between. However, in the event you find yourself in a disagreement, here are the steps for resolving conflict we follow.  Since this process is based in Scripture, members are expected to follow this process. Sunday School Sunday School is strongly emphasized at First Baptist for teaching, reaching, caring, belonging, and ministering.
